Into the Cold

I’ve been absent from my blog partially because I’ve been absent from my computer since Christmas. I have had my camera withe though and will post pictures at some point after I get back. It has been a nice visit to New England so far, with plenty of snow, a little rain and lots of cold weather. It has been a nice change from the sterility of the weather in southern california.

Happy Patriots Day!

I was going to live blog the Boston Marathon, but I have to teach before the marathon will be over, so instead I’ll be providing twitter-ish updates every couple minutes. Hopefully Hope can keep up…

9:35AM – The elite women have started and they’re not pushing it. Looks like weather is almost perfect 40F at the women’s start. Let’s go Kara Goucher!

Ok, this didn’t work out how I’d hoped. . . mostly due to having a very involved lab today.

Goucher and Hall both finished in the top 3, an awesome feat, but still a bit of a letdown. Goucher tried to run away with 5 miles to go, but maybe should have waited just a bit longer. She was overtaken in the last little bit.

Hall just couldn’t keep up after the blistering pace set by the pack in the early going. They were something like 40 seconds below the course record for a fair amount of the race.

Hopefully they’ll both return next year for another crack at it.
